Abandoned Dog Completely 'changed Colour' After Finally Being Given Much-needed Bath

The Shih Tzu/terrier cross, called Oliver, was abandoned outside Birmingham Dogs Home's Wolverhampton rescue centre last month and was in a terrible state when he was found

A neglected dog dumped outside a rescue centre 'changed colour' after being given a much-needed bath.

The animal's matted fur was first believed to be black and dark brown. A good groom, however, revealed a fluffy, golden coat as he was literally transformed into a different beast. The Shih Tzu/terrier cross was discovered outside Birmingham Dogs Home's Wolverhampton rescue centre. Centre staff said Oliver was freezing, petrified, and badly neglected and needed around-the-clock care during his recovery.

The dog was nervous and scared when he was first taken under the rescue's wing, but is now a "very loving, happy chap" in need of a new home. Fi Harrison from the centre said: "It was clear that he had been neglected for many months and his matted, filthy coat was causing him a lot of discomfort and stress.

"We were amazed to see he had a much lighter coloured coat when all of the dirt was finally washed away. Over the last few weeks this brave little lad has been receiving round the clock care from our dedicated team and fantastic support from our amazing supporters who have been donating to our charity to help us fund his care. "

His personality has transformed along with his appearance as he has learnt to trust his carers and changed from being a very nervous and scared boy to a very loving, happy chap who is a true delight to be around. We are hoping he will be adopted very soon.

"The home's Facebook page talked about Oliver's adorability. It posted: "He is very loving and gives us the biggest smile when we greet him. He is still very nervous, which is to be expected considering what he has been through, but he is a true delight to be around," reports Birmingham Live.

"He is now ready to start looking for his loving new home."

In a separate incident, SPCA officers launched a hunt for cruel pet owner after a dying dog was found dumped in a bin bag behind a Tesco. The abandoned animal was found next to rubbish in the Yardley area.

The bull breed, possibly an XL Bully, was unable to stand because of breaks to his neck, back, legs, and ribs. He was covered in his own waste, severely underweight, and had mange.

The neglected dog, around six months old, was rushed to Birmingham Animal Hospital, but died while on the treatment table. The RSPCA appealed for information about the "heartless" person responsible for the "sickening" incident.

4th Impact's Almira Breaks Her Silence About Group's Shih Tzu Dogs Issue

4th Impact group member Almira has taken to social media to address the online hate they've been receiving following the controversy surrounding their 200 Shih Tzu dogs.

Previously, the P-pop girl group launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund a larger home for their dogs. The initial five gifts from fans, however, had multiplied to 200, leading to noise complaints from neighbors.

However, a photo of the four attending Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour" was later posted on their social media account, which angered a lot of netizens as they seemingly had the funds to buy tickets for the show but did not have enough to support their dogs.

In her Instagram post, Almira, who was the eldest in the group, expressed her sadness regarding the whole issue and said that she felt the need to protect her siblings.

She further explained that the five Shih Tzus that the group received were from different fans and were not related. The sole male dog mated with most of the female ones, which caused them to multiply quickly.

Due to the number of dogs causing a lot of noise, the group received complaints from their neighbor, which led her to make a GoFundMe page as she believed that their fans would be supporting her in putting up a farm for the dogs.

Following the news of the girls' attendance at the "Eras Tour" and the negative comments they received, Almira deleted the page and refunded the money fans had sent afterward. She clarified that the group's attendance of the "Eras Tour" was not in Singapore but in Los Angeles at the Sofi Stadium in Aug 2023 and that their tickets were gifts from dedicated fans.

Almira asserted that the group will continue to work hard to purchase a farm for their dog and pay for all of their needs. She urged the public to stop using social media to spread hate towards them and stated that 4th Impact will continue its journey in the music industry.

4th Impact is composed of four sisters Almira, Irene, Mylene, and Celina Cercado. They rose to popularity following their time on the singing contest "The X Factor" where they reached the Top 5.

Assisted Living Facility Recognizes National Pet Day With Party For Residents

Betty Brinley's dog means everything to her.

Pippin is a black Shih Tzu. She keeps Brinley company at Trustwell Living Mansfield Place.

"I don't know what she'd do without that dog," said Andi Sneeringer, Brinley's daughter.

Trustwell Living Mansfield Place is an assisted-living facility that cares for a higher acuity of elderly who need additional care but still like a home setting.

Norma Domer and "Chance" share a quiet moment Thursday afternoon at Trustwell Living at Mansfield Place while celebrating National Pet Day.

Pets are part of that.

The facility allows its residents to have pets. In honor of National Pet Day (April 11), Trustwell Living hosted a pet party, complete with costumes and accessories for the half-dozen or so dogs. The pooches also enjoyed treats.

National Pet Day dedicates the day to those pets who may not always get the companionship and attention pets deserve. While loving our pets is something we do every day, the observance encourages helping out orphaned pet companions. It will improve their health and enhance their opportunities for adoption.

Therapy dog visits with residents of assisted-living facility

Sneering brought her Labradoodle named Sophie for the occasion. She is a therapy dog who makes frequent trips to Trustwell Living.

"She gets free treats (from the residents)," Sneering said of her dog.

Brinley couldn't participate in the party because of a recent medical procedure, but Pippin made an appearance.

"She's got more silver than black," said Amy Mullins, community relations director at Trustwell Living.

While Pippin was enjoying some extra company, Brinley recalled getting the 11-year-old as a puppy.

"We saw something in the paper," she said. "My husband didn't even know I was getting her, but he was fine."

And Pippin?

"She's a sweetheart," Brinley said. "She has a wonderful disposition."

Christine Spoonemore, an employee at Trustwell Living, brought Chance, a Shih Tzu-poodle-mix, to the party. The dog belongs to her roommate.

"He's pretty fancy," Spoonemore said of Chance. "We actually make his food. He gets homemade meals because he won't eat dog food."

She said Chance is a common visitor at the facility.

"They (residents) love him, and he loves attention," Spoonemore said. "He especially loves the courtyard."

Trustwell Living wanted to share photos of some of the animals at the Humane Society of Richland County for National Pet Day. Yvonne Smith, one of the humane society board members, brought Bianca, a beagle rescued from a puppy mill operation.

"I ended up taking her home. I couldn't help it," Smith said.

Scott Smith shares a treat with "Maggie" on Thusday at Trustwell Living at Mansfield Place.

Basset hound was big hit at party

Bianca enjoyed playing with Maggie, another canine visitor. The Basset hound's ears extend 24 inches from side to side.

Maggie came with Michelle Thompson, a social worker with SouthernCare.

While many residents do not have pets, they remember days when they did.

"John (Domer) and I had a dog for umpteen years," Norma Domer said of her late husband. "When the neighbors got ready to move, they said, 'Would you take the dog?' There was no way we could say no."

Marjorie Hood said one of the family's pets when she was growing up was so devoted to Hood's mother, the dog entered the church and lay at the casket during her funeral.

"I love dogs, I love cats," Hood said. "Anything but a snake."
