I'm A Vet – 3 Dogs That Have Loads Of Health Problems, Including A Breed Which Is 'notorious For Heart Disease'
A VET has warned owners of the potential health problems that afflict three breeds of dogs.
He wanted owners or those thinking of adopting one of these pooches to be aware of the potential cost, and most of all, the heartbreak it could involve.

In his post, he listed the breeds and the problems they might face, such as heart conditions and spinal problems.
"If you currently own any of these breeds, here are some issues you should be aware of," he wrote.
First up was the lovable dachshund, affectionately known as the wiener dog.
"Dachshunds make great pets, but they're prone to a lot of different health issues," he cautioned.
"The most common one is Intervertebral Disc Disease.
"That's a disease of the spine, where the discs, which are the cushions of the spine, deteriorate over time that can rupture."
Up next was the small but mighty Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

But they have problems too - cardiovascular ones.
"They're notorious for having a heart condition called mitral valve disease," he said.
"That's a valve in the heart that starts breaking down as you get older."
The cute pug was last on his list.
But it was their very cuteness that created their health issues.
"They are brachiocephalic dogs, meaning they have flat noses, flat faces, and small airways," he wrote.
"So they're very prone to developing shortness of breath and they have trouble regulating their temperatures when it gets hot."
In the comments to his post, there were examples from dachshund owners that both confirmed his warnings and completely flouted them.
This viewer's dog lived to a good age: "We had a mini Dachshund and he never had health issues and lived to be 17 years old."

Finally, it was a cautionary tale from another wiener dog owner. It could get very costly if they ever get ill.

A WOMAN who works as a dog trainer has revealed the 11 breeds she would never own.
Mary headed to TikTok to share her least favourite pooches and the reasons they don't make good pets.

The first dog breed was the Chihuahua, which she revealed had awful temperaments if they aren't well-bred.
She added that without proper socialising, these tiny pooches can also become fear aggressive.
Next were Pugs, not because of their personalities but because of the long list of health issues that come with them and she felt the same way about English Bulldogs.

Terriers of any kind were also on Mary's banned list, she claimed: "Too independent for me, so goddamn loud, every Terrier I've trained has barking issues."
The dog trainer added they were also difficult to socialise and had joint issues causing owners to have huge vet bills.
Doodles are the latest breed to become popular but Mary reckons they aren't worth the hype.
She claimed: "Never ethically bred, genetic nightmares, often are behavioural nightmares."

Kelpies and Hellers were next, as both breeds are happier as working dogs rather than house pets said the dog trainer.
Huskies also made it onto the list for being stubborn, loud, and having too much fur.
Another dog Mary would never own is the Shiba Inu which is predisposed to suffering from anxiety, being too loud, stubborn to train and can often nip and bite due to trigger stacking.
The dog trainer would also avoid Scent Hounds like Beagles as they are also too independent and loud.
She added these dogs need a lot of mental stimulation and can often suffer from joint problems.
Lastly, the dog trainer revealed she would steer clear of Daschunds.
"I know they're also Scent Hounds but I have a bone to pick with this particular breed," she said.
"So temperamental and unwilling to please.
"You need to be more consistent with this breed than most - they are extremely stubborn, disinterested in obedience and often have separation anxiety."
The video posted to her account @sulkingvenus has since gone viral with over 640k views and over 21k likes.
People were quick to share their thoughts on Mary's 'not to own' list in the comments.
One person wrote: "Dachshunds have such a great personality but it defo takes a certain dedication. Love mine to death."
Another commented: "First one of these I've seen that I've 100% agreed with."
"My aunt just bought a doodle. It's behaviour is soooooo bad I can't stand visiting with that dog there," penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: "I have a dachshund and man did you hit that nail on the head."
"I have a terrier, and he is indeed independent," claimed a fifth.

"A good starting point is to pick a breed that doesn't have an exaggerated appearance because extremes of body size and shape can lead to problems."
He continues: "So that means steering clear of giant breeds (Cane Corso), tiny tea cup breeds (teacup Chihuahua), those with excessive wrinkly skin (Shar-pei), ones with a very long back (Dachshund) and flat-faced breeds (Bulldog)."
Ben goes on to explain that one breed that many people consider to be amongst the healthiest is the Jack Russell.

"They aren't prone to many diseases and they generally have a long life expectancy," he claims.
"Studies have also found that Jack Russell's in the UK have a similar diversity in their genes to crossbreed dogs i.E. They're not very in-bred.

"For the most part, this is probably because prior to 2016, the Kennel Club didn't recognise the Jack Russell Terrier as a breed."
It wasn't long before the post went viral and racked up several comments, with many pet owners eager to offer their opinions.

A second penned: "Vet told us that mixed breeds live longer because of gene diversity."
